Who is behind Localandings

A Brazilian-Spanish storyteller who has called Madrid home for over 20 years — and is still just as captivated by its streets, flavors and unapologetic joie de vivre as on day one.

Founded by Drica Prado

Blame it on the tapas

A career as a music critic and English teacher in Brazil led to an obsession with languages, accents and cultural nuance — which led to the United States, which led eventually, inevitably, to Madrid. That was over twenty years ago. The city has never quite let go.

Inspiration lives everywhere here. In the Goyas at the Prado Museum and the Picassos at the Reina Sofía. In flamenco-rock concerts and the cinematic worlds of Almodóvar and Buñuel. In the particular pleasure of vermouth and tapas in a tavern that hasn't changed since 1952. Madrid rewards curiosity — and there is always something new to find.

A self-confessed language “freak” — fluent in Brazilian Portuguese, English and Spanish, with French and German studied along the way, and enough Mandarin to order a favourite dish with varying degrees of confidence and flair.

Every Localandings experience is built from this — twenty years of living, eating, exploring and falling in love with a city that never gets old. Madrid as a local knows it, shared with the people who come looking for exactly that.
